I'll tell you a true story. I've often caught Enid trying to eat snails. I'm convinced it's because she likes the crunch. In those times I give her a few fish cubes to satisfy her urge.
Now your dog might have better sense than to try to eat a snail but I think there is something to eating something a little crunchy. If you think about it, there is not a great deal of texture in dog food. Wet and soft if you feed raw or hard if you feed kibble. I like to think of these as crisps for your dog. And who doesn't love a crisp?
Give it a go and see if your dog loves the novelty.

My sausage loves these fish bites as a special snack. More of a treat than a ‘treat’ because it has a satisfying crunch, but doesn’t last longer than a few bites so quick!
